|Drug Name and Strength||Phenylpropanolamine 50mg/ml|
|Indication||For use in bitches to control urinary incontinence associated with acquired urethral sphincter incompetence.|
|Actions||The clinical effect of phenylpropanolamine in urinary incontinence is based on its stimulation effect on α-adrenergic receptors. This causes an increase in, and a stabilisation of, the closure pressure in the urethra, which is innervated mainly by adrenergic nerves. Phenylpropanolamine is a racemic mixture of D and L enantiomers.|
|Precautions||To be used by, or under the direction of, a registered veterinarian.|
|Dosage and Administration||For oral administration only. The recommended dose is phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride 1 mg/kg bodyweight three times daily in the feed. This corresponds to Urilin Syrup 0.1 mL/5 kg bodyweight three times daily, or 1 drop/2.34 kg bodyweight three times daily in feed.Discard unused portion three months after first use. Do not shake the bottle, simply invert it over the food and count the required number of drops. The efficacy of phenylpropanolamine has only been demonstrated in ovariohysterectomised bitches.|
|Storage||Store below 25°C (air conditioning). Protect from light by keeping the container in the outer carton. Do not freeze. Discard unused portion three months after first use.|
