Drug Name and StrengthOxytetracycline (as the hydrochloride) 185 mg,
Oleandomycin base (as phosphate) 100 mg,
Neomycin (as sulfate) 100 mg
Quantity20 x 10ml Tubes
IndicationAcute and chronic mastitis in cattle.
ActionsAntibacterial; effective against most types of infectious mastitis. The broad spectrum antibiotic activity of oxytetracycline is reinforced by two other antibiotics, oleandomycin and neomycin. Oleandomycin has particular activity against certain Gram-positive bacteria, especially Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. Neomycin has specific activity against Gram-negative organisms such as Escherichia coli, Proteus sp. and Pseudomonas sp.
Dosage and AdministrationInfuse 1 syringe (10 mL) into affected quarter after milking; ensure that the affected quarters are thoroughly stripped out before treatment; repeat once daily for three days. Massage well into the udder. In severe or systemic mastitis supportive therapy and parenteral antibiotics may also be required; culture and sensitivity testing should be performed to assist selection of the most appropriate antibiotic for use.Mastitis is frequently associated with traumatic conditions, lack of sanitation and improper milking methods. In addition to local therapeutic treatment, cleanliness of dairy and milking equipment, thoroughness of milking techniques, operator care and correctly adjusted milking machines are of paramount importance.
