ActionsNitrofurazone is bactericidal; at lower doses it is bacteriostatic. Nitrofurazone has no adverse effects on wound contraction or epithelialisation.Microbiology Neomycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic limited to topical use. Aminoglycosides are effective against rapidly dividing bacteria and they only need a short contact time to exert their effect. They are bactericidal and prevent microbial protein synthesis by irreversibly binding to the 30S subunit of the ribosome. Neomycin has a broad spectrum of activity including Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp., Klebsiella sp., Enterobacter sp., Proteus sp. and Actinobacillus sp.
