Any variation by the prescribing veterinarian to the approved dose, frequency, duration, route or target species may result in the need to extend the approved withholding period.|
|Dosage and Administration||Maximum recommended dose at any one site. Adult cattle: 20 mL. Pigs: 10 mL. Sheep: 10 mL.Care is needed when calculating small dose rates for dogs, cats and young animals. A temporary swelling at the injection site after administration to horses can sometimes be noticed. Intravenous injections (horses, cattle and sheep only) must be given slowly over a period of at least one minute. When dilution is required, dilution with saline or distilled water is satisfactory, and in such cases the solution should be used immediately. Dilution with calcium salts is not recommended as this may lead to precipitation of crystals, which makes the solution unsuitable for intraveneous use.For a long acting dose (cattle, sheep and pigs), give an intramuscular injection and repeat after two days if required. Engermycin 100 can be administered either at a dose rate according to species of 3 to 8 mg/kg for a 24 hour duration of activity, or at 10 to 20 mg/kg for prolonged duration of activity. Dose rates for each species are set out below. The 24 hour dose regimen can be given when the veterinary surgeon will visit the animal again after one day. Depending on the clinical progress after one day, this treatment can be followed by the long acting dose regimen. The long acting dose regimen can be given when: a. the veterinary surgeon will not visit the animal again; b. the veterinary surgeon will visit the animal after two days; c. the pathogens have moderate sensitivity to oxytetracycline; or d. there is severe infection, and high blood serum concentrations initially after a long acting dose can result in a better response to the treatment.Dosage regimen. For 24 hours' action, give dose once daily. For prolonged action, repeat after two days if required. Horses (500 kg). 24 hours' action: 25 mL (5 mg/kg) IM or IV.
