IndicationRoutine treatment of cows at drying off, eliminating the majority of existing infections and reducing the incidence of new infections; useful when the cause of infection is unidentified or where the presence of coliforms are suspected or known to be present as a problem on the farm.
ContraindicationsAdministration to lactating cows or cows expected to calve within 30 days following treatment. Allergy to penicillins.
ActionsBroad spectrum antibiotic infusion, bactericidal at the concentrations achieved in the udder, active against all major Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria associated with mastitis. It is highly effective against Streptococci, penicillin resistant and sensitive Staphylococci, Corynebacterium pyogenes and Escherichia coli. Mastitis is a herd problem which can only be controlled by disciplined attention to complete control programs.Dry Cow therapy is aimed at the elimination of the residue of infection likely to be present in cows at the end of lactation. It will also reduce the incidence of new infections.
PrecautionsWear rubber gloves when infusing the suspension.
Dosage and Administration1 syringe per quarter immediately after the final milking.At the end of lactation, milk the cow out normally. Clean and disinfect the teats, infuse 1 syringe into each quarter by applying gentle and continuous pressure until all the suspension is expressed. After infusion dip each teat in an approved antiseptic teat dip.
