IndicationVaccination of pregnant mares to stimulate the production of antibodies against equine rotavirus in colostrum and milk, as an aid in the management of rotavirus enteritis.
PrecautionsFor use in pregnant mares only. Foals born from vaccinated mares may still show signs of diarrhoea. Thorough diagnosis of the infectious agents, including rotavirus, is recommended to assist in the control of infectious diarrhoea.Take care to avoid self-injection. In the event of self-administration, seek prompt medical attention and take the package leaflet or carton with you. Accidental self-injection may result in local bruising, pain and swelling, particularly if injected into a joint or finger, and in rare cases could result in the loss of the affected finger if prompt medical attention is not given. If pain persists for more than 12 hours after medical examination, seek medical advice again.First Aid If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.Disposal Dispose of empty container by wrapping with paper and putting in garbage. Discarded syringes and needles should be immediately placed in a designated and appropriately labelled ‘sharps’ container.
Dosage and AdministrationUse entire contents immediately on opening. Administer 1 mL intramuscularly in the 8th, 9th and 10th months of pregnancy using aseptic technique. A booster dose should be given one month prior to foaling for each subsequent pregnancy. The presence of antibodies to rotavirus, even at high levels, is not always sufficient to prevent rotaviral disease in foals. Management practices should be implemented in conjunction with vaccination to assist in reducing the impact of rotaviral disease. These practices can include avoidance of overcrowding, minimising stress, quarantine of new arrivals, isolation/quarantine of clinical cases of diarrhoea and suitable disinfection of stalls and equipment.
