Key Features

  • Ultravac® 5in1 is a breakthrough in 5in1 technology.Zoetis' unique ultra-filtration process creates a more pure vaccine that stimulates a targeted response by the immune system. This ensures rapid and effective protection against the dangerous clostridial diseases.
  • Ultravac® 5in1 represents a new generation of products. The ultra-filtration of the vaccine means that the recommended dose is 2mL for cattle and 1mL for sheep. This means less fridge space is required and fewer vaccine bottle changes are needed when vaccinating large numbers of stock.

Dosage and Administration

  • Cattle, including calves
2mL followed by a second dose of 2mL 4 weeks later.
  • Sheep, including lambs
1mL followed by a second dose of 1mL 4 weeks later.
  • The first vaccination should be given at lamb marking or at 6 weeks of age for calves. A second dose should be given 4 to 6 weeks later. A booster dose given 12 months after the two basic doses of vaccine should confer lifelong immunity against blackleg and tetanus. However, further annual boosters are required to maintain immunity against black disease and malignant oedema.
  • More regular doses may be required to maintain immunity against enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney). These are best given prior to seasonal challenge and advice from your local veterinarian is recommended.
  • Annual booster doses should be given around four weeks before calving or lambing to ensure that passive immunity is passed onto the new-born calf or lamb via the colostrum (first milk).
  • Vaccine can be used for 30 days after opening providing correct storage instructions are followed.
  • This product can be stored and used for up to 30 days after first opening. On each subsequent reuse, swab the opening with a suitable disinfectant (for example, methylated spirits) both before and after using. A sterile needle must be used each time product is removed. Store unused material upright, at 2°C to 8°C (refrigerated) and in the original cardboard packaging to protect from light.

Additional Information

  • Store at 2°C to 8°C (Refrigerate. Do Not Freeze)
  • It is important that the vaccine is kept properly mixed before and during use.
  • For subcutaneous use only.

Caution: Avoid Carcass Damage

  1. Sterilise all injection equipment by boiling in water for 10 minutes before use. Avoid use of strong disinfectants.
  2. Maintain cleanliness at all times during vaccination. Great care must be taken to avoid contamination of the vaccine, needle and internal parts of the syringe by contact with unsterile surfaces or unwashed hands.
  3. Keep needles sharp and clean. Replace frequently.
  4. Use the shortest possible needle, not exceeding 15mm in length.
  5. As far as possible avoid injection of the animals during wet weather or under dusty conditions.
  6. This product must be injected only under the skin. (subcutaneously).
  7. If possible inject high on the neck behind the ear, i.e. under the skin on the side of the neck (just behind and below the base of the ear). Do not inject at any other site.

IndicationPrevention of enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney disease), tetanus, black disease, malignant oedema (blackleg-like disease) and blackleg in cattle and sheep including swelled head in rams.Always seek veterinary advice about the most suitable type of vaccine for use in a particular area.
ActionsThe type of adjuvant and the purification procedures used ensure maximum protection of stock with minimum risk of local reaction at the injection site. Immunity develops about ten days after vaccination. The second dose four weeks after the first should ensure a high level of immunity against the diseases covered by the vaccine.
WarningsBlack disease occurs as a sequel to liver fluke infestation and deaths can result from this cause also. Use of Ultravac 5 in 1 to prevent black disease does not protect against losses caused by liver fluke.
PrecautionsCorrect vaccination procedure in the field is important. Avoid carcass damage. Sterilise all injection apparatus by boiling in water for 10 minutes (or equivalent) before use. Avoid use of strong disinfectants on apparatus. Maintain cleanliness at all times during vaccination. Take great care to avoid contamination of the vaccine, needle and internal parts of the syringe by contact with unsterile surfaces or unwashed hands. Keep needles sharp and clean and replace frequently. As far as possible, avoid injection of animals during wet weather or in dusty conditions. Animals should preferably be inoculated in temporary yards on clean grass, as shearing sheds and fixed mustering yards are likely to be heavily contaminated with clostridial spores.Inject subcutaneously only, using the shortest possible needle not exceeding 15 mm in length. If possible, inject high on the neck behind the ear, i.e. under the skin on the side of the neck (just behind and below the base of the ear). Do not inject at any other site.Unused vaccine may be used for up to 30 days after first opening, provided instructions for resealing are carried out. See carton for resealing instructions.Disposal Dispose of empty containers by wrapping with paper and putting in garbage. Discarded needles should be immediately placed into a designated and appropriately labelled sharps container.
Dosage and AdministrationGive by subcutaneous injection high on the side of the neck in cattle, on the side of the neck just behind and below the base of the ear in sheep. Contents must be left in outer package until immediately before use. It is important that the vaccine is kept properly mixed before and during use. Before the vaccine is injected, clean the proposed site of inoculation on the animal's skin by swabbing with cotton wool soaked in an antiseptic solution such as methylated spirits. Cattle, calves. 2 mL; repeat four weeks later. Vaccinate calves from 6 weeks of age onwards. A booster dose of 2 mL given twelve months after the two basic doses should confer lifelong immunity against tetanus and blackleg. To maintain effective immunity against black disease, give annual booster doses of Ultravac 5 in 1 Vaccine. The two basic doses of Ultravac 5 in 1 Vaccine should provide effective immunity against enterotoxaemia for three months. Booster doses are therefore necessary to maintain immunity against enterotoxaemia in cattle and should be given at appropriate intervals according to local and seasonal conditions. Sheep, lambs. 1 mL; repeat four weeks later. Lambs are most conveniently vaccinated at marking time. A booster dose of 1 mL given twelve months after the two basic doses should confer lifelong immunity against tetanus and blackleg, but may not do so against enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney disease) or black disease. Further annual booster doses may be required to maintain effective immunity against these two diseases in high risk areas. Pregnant ewes. Give previously unvaccinated ewes 1 mL at the time of mating, then a second 1 mL dose up to four weeks before the expected date of lambing. Omit the dose at the time of mating in previously vaccinated ewes. Successfully vaccinated pregnant ewes will also pass on immunity to their lambs in the colostrum or first milk; such lambs will be protected against these diseases for the first 6 to 8 weeks of their lives.
StorageStore at 2 to 8°C. (Refrigerate. Do not freeze.) Protect from light.
