Product Description

Canvac CCi Vaccine is an inactivated vaccine prepared from a cell-free extract of Bordetella   bronchiseptica (7.5 μg/mL). It is adjuvanted with an immunostimulating complex to enhance the   response to vaccination and to increase the duration of immunity.

Canvac CCi Vaccine is used for the immunisation of dogs as an aid in the prevention of   Bordetella bronchiseptica infection, a contributing factor to the canine cough syndrome.

  The vaccine is intended for the immunisation of dogs against colonization of the upper and lower   respiratory tract and the nose and throat with Bordetella bronchiseptica. It may be given alone or   used as a diluent for other vaccines in the Canvac® range. For optimal effect on the incidence   and transmission of infectious tracheobronchitis (canine cough) vaccination with a   multicomponent vaccine containing canine distemper virus, canine parainfluenza virus and   canine adenovirus type 2 is recommended.

  This product should not be used in dogs when they are:
  1. incubating an infectious disease;
  2. seriously debilitated by another infectious disease, parasitic infestation or   malnutrition; or
  3. under treatment with immunosuppressive drugs.

  As Canvac CCi Vaccine is an inactivated vaccine, untoward systemic effects are uncommon   and the vaccine may be used in pregnant bitches. Careful palpation of the site of injection may   reveal a small fibrous nodule in some dogs about a week after vaccination. This nodule will   regress, becoming impalpable within two to six weeks. In a very few small, smooth-coated dogs   a nodule may be visible for a limited period. Occasionally, vaccinated dogs may show a nonspecific   systemic (pyrexia, anorexia and lethargy) or local reaction (pain on administration,   swelling and discomfort at the injection site). These reactions are generally transient.   Symptomatic and supportive therapy can be provided as required.   Systemic hypersensitivity reactions, mainly characterised by urticaria and facial oedema, have   also been reported, particularly in animals receiving a second injection of Canvac CCi Vaccine   4 to 8 weeks after the first injection. Premedication with an antihistamine may be indicated in   animals at risk.

The vaccine is injected subcutaneously.

  A 1 mL dose is recommended for dogs of all ages.

Gentle massage at the site of injection will help to disperse the vaccine.

  For primary immunisation, puppies and dogs should be given two doses of vaccine with an interval of 4 weeks between doses.

When used as part of a general vaccination programme for young puppies, Canvac CCi Vaccine may form one component of a broader vaccination regime.

Annual booster vaccinations are recommended to maintain adequate immunity, and a booster is   recommended before exposure to possible sources of infection, such as shows, boarding   kennels or obedience classes, especially if more than six months have elapsed since the last dose of vaccine was administered.

  Immunity develops about ten days to two weeks following the second dose of vaccine in seronegative dogs.

Canvac CCi Vaccine is issued in packs of 20 x 1 mL doses.

  Store between 2°C and 8°C (Refrigerate. Do not freeze). Protect from light.

  Dispose of empty syringes, needles and vials by immediately placing into a designated and   appropriately labelled ‘sharps’ container.
